Plans for Australia

by Lisa Cheah

Seeing that Australia would be one of the biggest/longest trip I'll take, I am aware that it would require careful planning in order to not only stay within budget, but as Australia is so huge we would have to try our hardest to maximise our time Down Under.

So, if you're interested, here are our rough plans so far.

We fly off from Oslo, Norway 19th of December and arrive in Melbourne 21st of December.

Seeing that the 40 hour journey would have taken a heavy toll on us, I have thus set aside 5 days and 4 nights in Melbourne.

I am not quite sure as to what to expect of Melbourne, but as far as I understood, its a metropolitan of little cafés and Australia's artsy fartsy central?

Spaceship Australia

After Melbourne, Magnar and I intend on renting one of these Spaceship Campervans and drive our way through Australia's rough and rugged nature towards Sydney!

SO far, there have been such mixed reviews as to whether or not this is a great idea, but it is an idea none the less!

Sydney Australia

And from the 28th of December all the way into the New Year, we will be spending it in Sydney, where I am hoping for an amazing New Year's Eve celebrations under the lights and sounds of the Sydney Harbour Bridge!

This is the only part of the plan that has so far been set in stone. Hotels are so hard to come by, we just had to bite our tongue and book whatever's available.

Hervey Bay, Australia

And after a what's hopefully a wonderful New Year, we will then fly ourself either to Cairns or Brisbane. This part of the plan is still very uncertain, all we know is that our flight leaves for Hong Kong on the 6th from Brisbane, so come what may!

Hong Kong

And then last, but certainly not least, Magnar and I will have a two day layover in Hong Kong! I figured since we were already travelling to what's literally the other end of the world, we should try and make the best of it. And since Cathay Pacific allowed us to do a layover for almost nothing extra, I jumped on that idea right away!

So, thats roughly our plans so far.

At first when the idea of Australia was brought up, I must admit and say I wasn't too keen, but after reading multiple blogs and reviews of that place, my hopes for Australia is an amazing backpacker paradise!

(It helps that we are travelling away from the horrible Norwegian winters, to an amazing summer elsewhere)

Australia 2014

by Lisa Cheah

After months of contemplation, Magnar and I have decided to go ahead and book our tickets to Australia!

We will be gone for about 3 weeks, with a 2 day layover in Hong Kong.

Neither one of us had been to said countries before, and so we are utterly excited!

Any and all tips welcomed!

Haglebu, Sigdal, Norway

by Lisa Cheah

In Norway, a common activity for Easter is to head up to what's known as a hytte (hut) for some skiing, and relaxation. For me, this mainly mean enjoying the best of what Norway has to offer.

I have said it many times, and I will say it again, in my years of travelling, I have yet to find a country more beautiful than Norway. Sure, I might be biased, but I can only think of it as the truth.

I've been lucky enough this year to get invited by my friends family to join them at Haglebu. Haglebu is about 2.5 hours from Oslo, in Sigdal kommune in Buskerud.

We spent 4 days skiing, both cross country and downhill, had amazing food, and a brilliant time.
